Crossing the Mekong story cloth depicts the exodus of the Hmong from Laos to Thailand. It is all hand-made by the Hmong who are known for their needle art skills. After 1975 thousands of Hmong fled to Thailand as result of Communists took over Laos. In the early 1980s, Hmong women in refugee camps in Thailand began stitching their refugee experience into story cloth.
