Painting, 17"x24"
by Yang Tonghe

Yang Dalu was a Hmong general under General Zhang Xuimei during the so-called "Miao Rebellion" which started in 1853 and ended in 1872. General Yang lived in the village of Langde, south of the city of Kaili. It was said that the "Miao Rebellion" was first started in the village of Langde when Yang Dalu killed a Qing soldier who just killed a poor Hmong man. From here, the Hmong rebellion quickly spread to many villages and provinces in Southwest China and lasted for almost 20 years.
